Recently we put our finishing touches on the Smithsonian National Zoo’s Conservation Central Website initiative. What a project! I’m very pleased with it. I feel it is “state of the art,” not only in its creative use of Flash technology, but also in its underlying content and media design.
Two of our big missions were to: 1) encourage the kind of “family learning” popular in children’s museums in the context of a national zoo, and 2) build meaningful connections for teachers in classrooms. Be sure to check out Design a Panda Habitat – do it with you child and note the conversations you have as you build a panda habitat together. And note the extensive modular resources available to teachers for followup on this activity.
The main location for “Conservation Central” is here. Many thanks to our team members, including Paula Sincero, Crispin Wood, Max Antinori, Sharon LeBoeuf-Dubois, and Amy Walsh.
