A pleasure to attend the Visitor Studies Association conference in Philly this past week. A few notes:
Web-based surveys for museum exhibit evaluation seem have come of age. As Kate Haley-Goldman of the Institute for Learning Innovation noted, we seem to have reached a tipping point in which online surveys are recognized as a viable means as a component for exhibit evaluation. Many people are using Survey Monkey.
Elaine Gurian suggested that visitor studies professionals are in a position to shape the development of the museum field. At the same time, she challenged evaluators think more broadly about what they are evaluating -- not just exhibit content, but the very nature and mission of the museum itself.
